The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has released the official guidelines for admission to MBBS and BDS programs for the 2025–26 academic year.
According to the new policy, candidates seeking admission must achieve a combined minimum GPA of 8.50 in the SSC and HSC examinations. For students from disadvantaged communities, the minimum requirement has been set at 8.00.
The policy was announced on Thursday through the website of the Department of Health Education and Family Welfare under the Ministry of Health. It was signed by the acting registrar of BMDC, Dr. Md. Leighakat Hossain.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must come from the Science stream and have successfully completed both SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations.
- The total GPA in both exams must be at least 8.50.
- A candidate will not be accepted if the GPA in any single exam is below 4.00.
- Biology must have a minimum GPA of 3.50.
- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology must all be included in the HSC-level subjects.
Rules for Foreign Applicants
For Government Medical Colleges:
Foreign applicants must obtain a total GPA of 8.50 on a scale of 5.00 across SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations. Biology must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher. If any single exam shows a GPA below 4.00, the application will be considered invalid.
For Private Medical Colleges:
Minimum combined GPA is 7.00 with Biology GPA 3.50 mandatory. An application will be rejected if any exam has a GPA lower than 3.50.
Special Conditions for Backward Communities
For candidates from tribal and hilly districts, the required combined GPA for SSC and HSC is 8.00. Biology must have a minimum GPA of 3.50, and no subject may have a GPA below this score. These conditions apply to both tribal and non-tribal candidates from those areas.
Who Can Apply
Only students who passed the HSC examination in 2024 or 2025 are eligible. Applicants who passed SSC before 2022 will not be allowed to apply. 'O' Level or 'A' Level students must collect an equivalence certificate from the Directorate of Health Education before submission.
BMDC’s Statement
The BMDC stated that the new policy aims to ensure transparency and uphold academic standards in medical and dental admissions. Officials from the Ministry of Health said the changes will help make the admission process more merit-based while also ensuring that students from disadvantaged backgrounds get fair opportunities.
