Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar unexpectedly ended his trip to the United Kingdom and swiftly returned to Israel after facing legal proceedings brought against him. The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) and the Hind Rajab Foundation formally requested an arrest warrant against the Israeli minister, citing allegations of war crimes committed in Gaza.
Reports indicated that Sa’ar was expected to remain in the UK until Saturday. His sudden departure raised questions, particularly after reports emerged of a private meeting between him and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Sources indicate that the meeting focused on Gaza and broader Middle Eastern issues.
GLAN took to the social media platform X on Thursday, sharing a post that warned, "Sa’ar is leaving the UK urgently. He is an accused individual in an ongoing investigation for serious crimes. If spotted, notify the London Metropolitan Police, but do not approach, as he may be accompanied by armed security."
The allegations against Sa’ar pertain to his role in the siege of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza between October and December 2024. Reports suggest that during the blockade, medical personnel and patients suffered violent attacks, and the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, was abducted. Additionally, Sa’ar has publicly voiced support for maintaining restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The development has attracted international attention, with human rights organizations emphasizing the need for legal accountability in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Meanwhile, Israeli officials have not yet issued a formal response to the situation.
