After a disappointing debut season with Bayern Munich, Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha is making his return to the Premier League. The midfielder has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.
Palhinha moved to Bayern from Fulham last year on a four-year contract. However, his time in Germany was hampered by a combination of injuries, illness, and a lack of opportunities under new coach Vincent Kompany. He played in just 25 matches for Bayern in the 2024–25 season, with only 10 of those coming as a starter.
The transfer saga between Palhinha and Bayern began in 2023, when then-coach Thomas Tuchel was keen to sign the midfielder. However, that deal fell through at the last minute. Bayern eventually secured his services for a reported transfer fee of five crore euros a year later, but the move ultimately did not work out as planned for either the player or the club.
Now, with a return to London and a league where he previously excelled, Palhinha has the chance to put his difficult season behind him and rediscover his form.
