Global Protests Erupt Demanding End to Israel's Military Actions in Gaza

Protest

Protests and demonstrations have erupted in various countries worldwide, demanding an end to Israel's genocide in Gaza. Protesters are calling for an immediate cessation of the violence in Gaza and the restoration of normal humanitarian aid operations. At the same time, they have sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for his continued support of Israel.

United States

On Saturday, thousands gathered in Washington, D.C., to protest against the ongoing military operations in Gaza and to demand the recognition of Palestine as an independent state. Among the protesters were Muslims, Christians, and numerous representatives from Jewish peace organizations. According to the Turkish state news agency Anadolu, the protest was organized by over 300 groups, including the Palestinian Youth Movement, The People’s Forum, Jewish Voice for Peace, and the Ansar Coalition. The march traversed through some of Washington's key streets.

Turkey

On Sunday, thousands took to the streets in various Turkish cities, including the capital, Ankara. Protesters gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Ankara to voice their opposition to the United States’ ongoing military and political support for Israel. They chanted slogans such as “We demand an independent Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea” and “Down with U.S. imperialism, down with Israel’s occupation.”

Protest

Morocco

The largest protest took place in Morocco. On Sunday, hundreds of thousands gathered in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, to demand an end to the military operations in Gaza. Protesters also directed their criticism towards U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration. Mohammed Tosi, who traveled from Casablanca to join the protest, told Al Jazeera, “This is no longer a war; Israel is trying to erase Gaza from the map, and the Trump administration is enabling it. Under Joe Biden, the destruction of Gaza was kept under wraps, but under Trump, everything is in the open.”

Protest

Germany

In Berlin, Germany, protesters held up various banners and placards. One of the placards highlighted the fact that Israeli forces have killed nearly 18,000 Palestinian children and over 200 journalists. These facts were used to express solidarity with Palestine. The protest also saw strong condemnation of Israel's attacks and sharp criticism of Netanyahu’s government.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a military campaign in Gaza in October 2023. After over 15 months of continuous action, under pressure from the U.S. and other mediators, Israel declared a ceasefire on January 19. However, just two months later, on March 18, 2024, Israel resumed its military offensive in Gaza. In this second phase, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in just 15 days.

At least 35 of the 251 hostages taken by Hamas are believed to still be alive. The IDF has vowed to rescue them through military means.

The United Nations and the international community have repeatedly called for an end to the military operations in Gaza, and a case has even been filed against Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that the goal of the military campaign is to completely dismantle Hamas and secure the release of the hostages, and operations will continue until these objectives are met.
